■天守台 1657年に発生した明暦の大火以降再建される事が無かった天守閣だが、天守台だけは加賀藩によって造営された。 最初、天守閣のあった場所は現在地より少し南だったらしいが、現在残っている場所に最後の天守閣を築いたのは三代将軍家光だ。 この写真にも見える巨石は瀬戸内から運ばれた御影石だそうだ。

■Tenshidai Donjon Base The first tenshukaku donjon of Edo Castle was constructed in the time of the 2nd Tokugawa Shogun Hidetada in 1607, and it was completed under the 3rd shogun Iemitsu in 1638, following the course of large-scale repairs carried out in 1622. Standing 58ms tall above the ground, five storied building outside, six storied within, it was the highest donjon ever built in japan and symbolized the authority of the Tokugawa Shogunate. It was burnt down in the conflagration of 1657, only 19 years after completion, and it has never since been reconstructed.
